This page describes what the product does with information today. It lists the services the product sends data to. It does not describe a compliance certification, because none is claimed. This text has not had legal review.
Who this covers
Parents who sign in, and the children whose profiles a parent creates. A parent creates the child profile and the child signs in with a code. Children do not create accounts themselves.
What a parent provides
- Email address, used to sign in with an emailed code.
- For each child: name, age, grade, country, and an optional email address.
What is recorded about a child
- The sessions a child has with the tutor: the messages typed or spoken to the tutor and the tutor's replies, the topic, and when the session happened.
- Notes written by the product about a session, including a summary generated by an AI model. These are labelled as AI-written in the parent dashboard.
- Quiz answers and scores, and diagnostic or topic-check results.
- Progress by topic.
- The former weekly competition stored a child's name and score on a leaderboard. The competition page has been taken out of the product. The code that stores these entries has not been deleted, so any existing entries have not been removed.
- A browser session on the child's device, stored locally, that keeps them signed in.
Services that receive data
The product sends data to these services to work. This list comes from the code.
- Firebase (Google): sign-in and the database that stores the records above.
- OpenAI: the text of a session is sent to generate the tutor's replies, quizzes, outlines and summaries. Tutor speech is generated with OpenAI's speech service.
- Resend: sends the emails listed below.
- Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights: page-view and performance measurements.
- The browser's own speech recognition, when a child uses voice input. Which company processes that audio depends on the child's browser and device.
Emails the product sends
- The sign-in code.
- A welcome email.
- A report to the parent after a session.
- An update when an adaptive topic is finished.
- Learning hub reminder emails. Each has an unsubscribe link.
What a parent can see
A parent can read the recorded sessions of their own children, including the conversation. Access control between accounts is part of the backend work and has not been verified yet.
Removing a child
Removing a child from the Children page deletes the child's profile record. The code does not delete that child's sessions, quiz results or leaderboard entries in the same step. Whether and when those are deleted is not decided yet. A parent who wants them removed should write to hello@meetmrnerd.com.
Not decided yet
- How long records are kept.
- Which country's law governs this page, and the legal entity responsible.
- Rules for children under 13 in each country the product may serve. The product currently offers a country list that includes more than one country, and no country has been confirmed.
